  2. Olympic Torch coverage in Wales to be hit by BECTU and NUJ strike
    Coverage of the Olympic Torch arriving in Wales on Friday 25 May will be hit by BECTU and NUJ members taking strike action. The industrial action is in protest at the decision by the BBC to dismiss the chair of the BECTU branch at BBC Cardiff, Heidi Williams. Members were outraged at the decision to dismiss their long serving branch chair and asked to be balloted for strike action.     The NUJ and Bectu are balloting their members at Associated Press following the press agency's decision to close its final salary pension scheme. The company is now offering an inadequate defined contribution scheme in its place.     The NUJ and other media organisations have won the judicial review at the Court of Appeal following the decision by Chelmsford Crown Court to grant the Dale Farm footage production order.
